Fight The Good Fight is dedicated to serving those in our community affected by brain tumors. Our Mission is to raise awareness of brain tumors in our community by hosting charity events such as our annual 7k. We are committed to maximizing financial relief for brain tumor patients with grant opportunities. Our long term goal is to start monthly support groups for brain tumor patients and their caregivers. This support group will provide resources and tools to help their fight against brain tumors. It will also give them an opportunity to connect with other brain tumor patients and caregivers in a family friendly environment.

Brain Tumor Facts:
- Brain tumors do not discriminate. Primary brain tumors - those that begin in the brain and tend to stay in the brain - occur in people of all ages, but they are statistically more frequent in children and older adults.
- According to the National Brain Tumor Society, “an estimated 78,980 people will receive a primary brain tumor diagnosis in 2018,” with the most prevalent brain tumor types in adults being “Gliomas (such as glioblastoma, ependymomas, astrocytomas, and oligodendrogliomas), which make up 74.6% of malignant brain tumors.” These tumors are usually very aggressive and attack the surrounding brain tissue.
- Among children as well, “pediatric brain tumors are the leading cause of cancer-related death among children and adolescents ages 0-19, surpassing leukemia.”
In order to meet our mission and provide services in our community, we rely on the generosity of individuals and businesses for support. Since our founding in 2014, we have raised $51,905. After covering our expenses, this has allowed us to present grants and gifts to brain cancer patients totaling over $22,800. Together with our community, sponsors, and volunteers we ask you to make a pledge today to help us keep the MOMENTUM going. Join us in helping others fight the good fight together against brain tumors. For more information on our mission and efforts, please visit our website (fightthegoodfights.org).
What is Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM)
Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is the most common malignant brain tumor. These tumors are usually very aggressive and attack the surrounding brain tissue. It is a rare form of cancer affecting 2-3 people for every 100, 000 per year. Symptoms include headaches, seizures, nausea and memory loss. Linda has established this non-profit to help other families with loved ones dealing with glioblastoma Multiforme. With this effort she hopes to provide financial relief for the families for many of the cost associate with battling the disease and to shed light on this type of brain cancer and spread the word to help find a cure.
In memory of Michel Garcia

"Life is what pushes me"
The month of May was chosen because May is national brain cancer awareness month (Silver ribbon). The distance of 7k was chosen because Michel passed in July. The 1.7 mile distance optional turnaround was chosen because the number 17 was Michel's lucky number, which you will also see consistently on race bibs. Michel's family has been very active in the Huntersville community for years.
Philanthropy means "love of humanity" in the sense of caring, nourishing, developing and enhancing "what it is to be human" on both the benefactors' (by identifying and exercising their values in giving and volunteering) and beneficiaries' (by benefiting) parts.
By the definition of philanthropy there are no cancellations, transfers or refunds.
